A 6122 for sale at guitar center used site

Postby Ray Bohlken » Sat Jan 21, 2017 11:37 pm

I ran across this Gretsch 6122 at the Guitar Center used instrument site for $1429.00. They say it is a year 2000 guitar, but it looks for all the world like a Hall of Fame 6122 and a Nashville Classic. I can't make out what the plaque on the head stock says. I think this is a great price for one of these if I am right. I have a Nashville Classic, so I wouldn't be interested, but maybe one of y'all would. Hope I'm right and someone gets a good deal.

2003 was the first year of the Nashville Classic which this appears to be a NC. I own one of the first year models and I don't remember an orange one being offered or I would have ordered one.

In 2006, they made a handful of sunburst, orange, and natural finish Nashville Classics. I know this because I have one of the sunburst models from that year. I asked Joe Carducci about it, and he didn't know for sure, but he said it's possible that they may have only made a dozen or two in each color. So it might be one from the 2006 batch that were built in 2006, which was the last year before they changed the name from Nashville Classic back to Country Gentleman.

Sounds like a bargain price for that guitar! Yes, it's a Nashville Classic from a small batch of special ordered colors that was made by Broadway Sound in Knoxville. It's basically the same guitar as the G6122-1959 Hall of Fame Country Gentleman. The only differences is the nameplate, of course, the HOF has white trimmed simulated f-holes, & the Gretsch name is painted black in the pickguard.

Ray,
Thanks for the heads up on the fine instrument! I purchased it. It's a Nashville Classic, 2005 per the S/N and the original paperwork that came with it. It's like new and plays great. I was so surprised about the string gauges that came on it. I've never played a set like that before (12, 16, 24 wound, 32, 42, 52). I don't know the string brand and I determined the gauges using a micrometer. I will be trying that on my 6120 down the road for sure.
Thanks,
Gary

Gary, I'm glad you were able to get this one. I have one myself and they are great guitars and this one is striking in the orange. I hope you enjoy it for many years.
Take care.
