I saw that. Mine is original hardcover and first $250 gets it. Will put on ebay if no takers. I don't think I got Chet to sign it because he hated that so much. Will look today.

The understanding I have is that by the time the book was ready for printing Chet was too sick to sign much of anything. The original plan was for him to sign X number of 'signature pages' to be bound in the book but he just wasn't able to do it so one of his boyhood friends hand stamped the signature. I've never heard any rumor that Chet hated anything about that book.

I got mine out to check the date. Paul called me and we met in Clarksville, TN at the Cracker Barrel on April 18th, 2001. He said, I want to give you this "Publishers Copy" of the Me and My Guitars book, it is #11 and Paul has written "Pub. Proof" with a felt tip pen on the white cardboard sleeve that holds the book inside. He had just been to Chet's home the day before and the idea was, he was going to have Chet write inside the book from him to me, date it and sign it - - never happened! Paul said, Gayle I'm really sorry but Chet was in such bad shape yesterday I hated to ask him to do it, I don't know if he could have done it . . . .Paul almost broke down at that point.

So, mine is not signed by Chet either, he was just too sick to do much of anything at that point and of course, passed away a couple of months later. So, bottom line is, I have #11 with Paul's writing on the outside and "that in itself" means a lot to me. I will cherish it forever!

Paul also said, "this is a publishers copy and if you keep this book in good shape (which I have done of course) it will really be worth some big money one of these days".

Russ Cochran was recently in a frightening situation. Check this story and video out:

He's okay, and mighty lucky...!

My copy is one of the original 1200 and is signed by Chet.

Chet did not mind signing a guitar to make it more valuable. He loathed anyone getting him to sign something thinking he was about to die or something. This is why he was so reluctant to do the instructional video. He was very difficult to work with in the morning session but came back that afternoon helpful and funny.

I live in Nashville and the one thing you never do to a friend in the music business is to let them know you are also a fan.

I know this sound weird but that is how it is.

When I was around Chet, we never discussed music....just guitars, golf, good movies and history. Secretly, I was in awe of Chet. I wish all of you could have had the experience of walking in a restaurant with Chet and watch every person stop eating and watching his every move. Chet Atkins was the biggest star ever in Nashville.

Chet did ask me to play for him one time. I don't even remember the excuse I made...but I was way too intimidated to play for Chet.

The reason I am selling the book is that I want someone to have it who would love to own it.

I have number 58 as well as the same number of Les Paul's book. The gold numbered label has Chets signature stamp with an inscription saying Chet had intended to sign the original issue but was too sick to do it so his fried Harry Warner applied Chet's signature to it. I did have both the Cochran brothers sign mine.
