LMark, this is one of my all time favorite shows with Chet in it. He played a great solo set and blended in a wonderful way with George and Earl. What a great video! Thanks for posting this link. I'm smiling. :D

I watched this when it first aired! 1978 was 5 years before my first VCR! I really appreciate this being here! I've downloaded it now!

I had only been playing guitar for about a year maybe two when I first viewed this show. I really wasn’t too familiar with Chet Atkins at the time, but once I saw him play “Don’t Think Twice” and “Stars and Stripes Forever,” that changed everything for me. From that point on I was finger style all the way!

I was in heaven watching that!!

First tune was Cherokee, which Chet recorded on “Yestergroovin’”

I sure hope they don’t take this down!

Doug, you should just download it. It's a YouTube video.

I love watching that clip with Chet, George, and Earl playing Lonesome Me. It's really cool watching George and Earl smiling ear-to-ear watching and hearing what Chet's playing! I imagine them thinking - how the heck does he do that! Seems like anybody that plays guitar for any length of time couldn't help but smile hearing and watching Chet playing.
Thanks
Steve

When they think “How the heck does he do that?? They’re in good company...ME!

I think the same thing. And have been since first time I heard Chet. In fact, I’d dare say “How the heck does he do that?” was the first question in most of our minds that motivated us to pick up a guitar and strum our first chord!

Thanks for putting this up. I'd thought I'd never see it again. As with Rande, I didn't have a way to record it. I loved it then as I did just now. Although it was a little blurey it looked like even then Benson had an Ibanez guitar. Chet had I don't know which kind of Gretch. In Chet's band I saw Paul Yandel, I think Henry Strezlecki on base, Larry London on drums? The harmonica/percussionist guy I think I first saw on TNN along with Brent Mason doing "Sugarfoot rag".
