The Chetboard

My grandfather played and recorded with Chet durring the 1950's. I do not know the exact years, and I do not know the albums he played backup guitar on. When he died his old albums were gone or disposed of. I am curious if anyone has any of those albums and if his name is on them, or where I could find this informaiton. This is of great value to me. My grandfather died young, but he left stories of Chet, Flat and Scruggs, the Cater family, others, and an extremely rare Gretsch Country Gentleman. Please let me know if you can find the name Wayne Rogers anywhere on anything, or where I could find such informaiton.

With Wayne Rogers being the name of Alan Alda's costar in the early MASH series, that is turning out to be difficult. Even when I pair his name with Chet's in a Google search, I'll get sites that sell recordings of each separately. I'm sure
you've run into all of this yourself.

Paul Yandell knew Chet during that time and maybe he knows?

I´ve looked at the 5 CD collection "Chet Atkins: The Early Years" covering 158 recordings done between mid 1946 - October 22, 1956, and his name does not appear in the information on the musicians taking part. He may have been playing on Chet´s recordings after 1956. I´m sure some of the people here on the Chetboard will know.

A difficult search indeed, as there are other guitarists named Wayne Rogers.

Did he write this tune called Wayne's Boogie, which is credited to a "Wayne Rogers"?

Did he design banjos? This website contain the line:

"The Gold Tone OB-500 was personally designed by owner Wayne Rogers..."

This interview with Quentin Stoltzfus contains the line: "As far as favorite guitarists go, John Fahey is brilliant, Sandy Bull, Neil Young, Wayne Rogers blew my mind the first time I heard him, Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Carl Perkins, etc[sigma] I could go on and on."


Of course, these could each be a unique "Wayne Rogers".
