I wanted to acknowledge in advance that tomorrow marks 17 years ago that we lost Chet.

It's so hard to believe. Since my mother is 93 (born the same year as Chet Atkins) I just can't believe he has been gone that long. But I remember Bill Anderson mentioning it on his show right after Chet Atkins passed away. It seems like just last year to me.

My mom called me and told me the sad news. I remember balling like a baby. As if my daddy had died. I immediately took out one of my Chet cassettes, played it and sat there weeping. In my deepest heart I could not answer the one question that kept shouting through my head. "Why could not a man who makes music THIS BEAUTIFUL and amazing, live FOREVER???

It took me months to get back to a semblance of normal. Grieving went on for a long, long time. Chet's passing rocked my world; my foundation, really.
