I ran across this interesting article today. It may have been posted here before, but it's well worth reading: THE EVOLUTION OF COUNTRY FINGERPICKING By Rich Kienzle.

Thanks for posting that Chuck! I remember reading it in Guitar Player magazine when it first came out. I forgot about Rich's mention of Al Myers (the correct spelling) in the article, who played and recorded with the Georgia Crackers. I got to know Slim Newman really well during my time playing in the staff band on The Country Music Cavalcade here in Columbus. Both Al and the Newmans were originally from Columbus and moved back here after their Hollywood Movie days. That was so long ago! Al came to my high school graduation party and I got to pick with him all afternoon. I didn't really know how influential he had been as a guitarist until a few years later. It was a blessing to get to know him. I was so blessed to get to know so many great guitarists at a young age. And they were all so great to put up with this 'kid' trying to learn all he could about finger style guitar.

We inducted Al into our little Ohio Fingerstyle Guitar Club Hall of Fame in Dec '04, Audie. http://ofgc.net/al_myers.htm
And, on our Memorials page - right next to yours. :D
