So on the '59 Countrygent Chet has a phase shifter switch on his Country Gent. Would it be possible for me to get my hands on one.

If I remember right, Paul Yandell installed that on Chet's '59 Country Gentleman.

It would be cool if Gretsch would someday re-issue a '59 Country Gentleman with more detail than the current one, such as the correct walnut color, using similar figured wood and include the phaser!

A few years ago someone had a '59 Country Gent on ebay that was an exact replica of Chet's '59. It had all the exact specs: the 70's knobs, the phase shifter with red tip, the holes from the device he had mounted on the top...EVERYTHING! Not sure how much it went for.
By the way, I think the phase shifter is from one of those guitars that you could take the modules in and out (I don't remember the name). I don't think it is an MXR. Chime in anytime Craig................

Yeah the color needs to be addressed. The 1958-6122 is almost the right color. They just need to use that finish.
I would like figure out how to add the MXR phaser. That is cool.

But the color is more important to get it right.

I have a Red Super Axe which has the Phaser built in and it is the best Phaser I ever heard, it sounds just like Chet's records. I have a MXR 90 and it doesn't sound near as smooth as the one built into the Super Axe. Al

I agree Eddie, it would be nice if they could get the correct color and equally as nice if they used Lacquer instead of Poly. Lacquer resonates better than Poly.

I could be totally wrong about the phaser being an MXR. I just looked in the "Me and My Guitars" book, it's not in there. I may have read it in the 1979 Guitar Player Magazine interview, I don't have access to that article right now. It's possible that it could be the same module that was in the Super Axe. I don't know when Paul put it in there. I think Paul went to work for Chet around 1975 and the Super Axe came out about 1976. Also Paul endorsed Electra guitars for a while. Some of those Electra guitars had removable modules, so that could be a possiblility also. I'm almost sure that I read somewhere that the phaser was a MXR though. Maybe Norm knows?

I was wrong about it being a MXR. I emailed Norm, it was an Electra module. After I get Norm's permission I'll copy his response and post it here, or he can. I'm glad to find out the correct info. I removed the MXR reference from the previous post. I don't like spreading mis-information. Once people get it in their head it gets repeated as truth. Now we know it was an Electra module!
