Solid Gold 70?

Was this album released twice? First as Solid Gold 69, and then again as Solid Gold 70? The track listings are identical.
Thanks, Bill

I found another source that lists two "Solid Golds" a 68 and a 69 but no 70

RCA Victor LSP-4061 Solid Gold '68: Slick; Lady Madonna; Prayer Meetin'; Sealed With A Kiss; Stoned Soul Picnic; The Sound Of Silence; Mrs. Robinson; Harper Valley P.T.A.; Light My Fire; Sleep Safe And Warm (Lullaby From Rosemary's Baby); Grazing In The Grass; It Never Hurts To Ask – 11-68 (MX: WPRS-4841/2)

RCA Victor LSP-4244 Solid Gold '69: Both Sides, Now; Son Of A Preacher Man; My Way; Blackbird; I'll Never Fall In Love Again; So What's New; Folsom Prison Blues; Jean; Love Theme From Romeo And Juliett; Hey Jude; Aquarius – 11-69 (MX: XPRS-2421/2)

I have both '68 and '69 in my collection (I like '69 the best), but I've never seen '70. Is it a US release?

I don't know, Craig. The first I've heard of a "Solid Gold 70" is on the MisterGuitar website. Maybe it is a foreign release - anyone know?

That's really bizarre

The two album covers and lists are identical except for the year number shown. Identical song list, the whole schmear but it would appear that no one can produce an owned copy of "70"

According to the source I qupted the two abums (68/69) were released in November of their respective years and (I assume) contained million hits of the year advertised which would make Solid Gold 70 some kind of red herring.

I just now did a google search and while I found S/G 70 listed on several other sites none of them showed a song list.

One site listed the release date of S/G 70 as January of 1970. This is two months after the release of S/G 69.
Doesn't solve the riddle. Makes it even more confusing, actually. There is probably a story about an allbum cover misprint lurking somewhere forty odd years in the past.

In any case the duplication of the song list speaks volumes. We know 68's song list is true and valid because it is so listed in both misterguitar and the archive I quote. And we know Craig Dobbins is not the only person to own a bona fide copy of that album.

The 70 album would possibly be a collectors item depending on how many actually got put out on the market

Bill,

Solid Gold '70 was issued in England, after being issued here in the US. England didn't issue Solid Gold '68, but evidently decided to issue the '69 issue in 1970, so they changed the '69 to '70

That makes sense

Mystery solved...

Isn't this where Alfred Hitchcock fades in and says "...and now a word from our sponsor...?"

Or Paul Harvey with "Now you know the rest of the story"...

Thanks for that information, Jere.
