Tower Books Gibson Book Signing 1994

My wife thought I should share these photos with the Chetboard. This is from a Gibson event that they had at Tower Records & Books in Nashville. Chet Atkins & Walter Carter were there signing the books.

Here I am playing in the guitar contest. I came away with a Gibson T-shirt, some strings & a guitar strap. Chet's sitting to the right of me under the Reba & Gibson book sign. The only time I ever played in front of Chet! (You can't see him in the photo.)

If any of you were at this event I would like to hear from you!

Many people didn't know that Steve Wariner was there. He was buying his kids books and waiting around to talk to Chet. He signed my book too!

This was back in the early days of the internet, when it was all mostly text. I was on a bulletin board of some sort and Walter Carter was answering questions about Gibson guitars. He mentioned that he was going to have a book signing with Chet @ Tower Records and Books in Nashville. I asked about the details and told him that I worked for American Airlines and hopefully I could get to fly to Nashville for this event. When Walter signed my book, I told him who I was, he then looked over at Chet and said "Chuck flew out here from Oklahoma just to see you Chet!" Walter signed my book: "To flying Chuck, Walter Carter". Chet Atkins signed it and Steve Wariner did too!

I second Norm's motion. That was an enjoyable trip down memory lane.

I had a plane trip planned to Omaha to see Chet and Leo Kottke together. But, when I called prior to booking my flight, they told me the show had been cancelled. They told me Chet broke his thumb, which was false. He was just battling what eventually took him down. Still, I wish...

Those were the days! It was always exciting for those of us who got to meet Chet, or see him on concert. I was privileged to meet him several times.

Bill Monk, who used to frequent the Chetboard, played in the guitar contest at Tower Records & Books too. Does anyone know what happened to Bill? I haven't heard from him in a long time.

A week ago Monday, I saw Steve Wariner play at the Nashville City Winery. Walter Carter and his wife sat at my table. Nice folks.
Thanks,
George

George, i haven't heard anything about Walter Carter on quite some time. He was very active in guitar book writing there for a while. Glad to hear that he's doing well.
