Superpickers LP Cover RCA Studio A Back Lot

Postby PhilHunt » Mon Feb 04, 2013 7:14 am

One day Eddie and Steve Ledford and myself decided to drive around old Nashville. I always wondered where the location was shot for the Superpickers album. It was shot in the back lot of Studio A and right behind Studio B.

Good detective work! Can anybody identify the other musicians?

I will give it a shot. Left to right kneeling in front of the door Henry Strzeleki, Charlie McCoy, Jerry Shook,
Hargus Robbins, Weldon Myrick. 2 row standing Larry London, on hood Bobby Thompson, unknown, Chet, Johnny Gimble. I welcome any corrections.

I think that's it. "Unknown" would be Paul Yandell.

Yes, the "unknown one" looks like Paul Yandell. And each and every one of them is a legend in his own right.

The jeep that is in the picture was my dad's, Jerry Reed had one as well. They both got them about the same time.

That is one of my favorite LP covers of Chet and his friends. I guess that was one of the "A-Team" of musicians Nashville was known for, at least a group Chet used a lot on sessions he produced including this record. I was still spinning records on WFSC radio when this LP came out and I've read the credits many, many times while it was playing. It was my first time seeing Paul's photo although I was aware of his session work through credits on other records. He looks like a young kid there...and I guess he was pretty young then. One of the cuts that got a lot air-play back then was "Fiddlin' Around" with Chet, Johnny Gimble, and Charlie McCoy doing the monologues.

I really like the ME AND CHET cover(in the boat). The Atkins-Travis Traveling Show is nice also.

Speaking of Me and Chet cover in the boat, I remember asking John Knowles at one of the CAAS conventions
years ago if he knew where that pix was located. He said it was on the left as you go south on 100 heading
to Loveless Cafe. My late friend Kenny Winkler told me it was across the street from his mothers house.
Percy Warner Blvd and Park Ln is directly across the street. John said that large pond would fill up nicely
during years of a lot of rain. You can see it pretty clear on Google Maps. :)
