Travis liner quote

Postby Norm » Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:33 am

On either 'Back Home' or the 'Merle Travis Guitar' Merle mentions "playing Tiger Rag as much like Mose Rager as I could'"

My LP's aren't accessible... which album was it?

Norm, that was one of the tracks on "Turn Your Radio On" If I had a copy I would send it to you. The audio while he is playing is not very good, but he does say I try to play it like Mose Rager.

I didn't even realize that Mose Rager played "Tiger Rag". I'm wondering how well he did it?

Apparenlty Tiger Rag was one of Mose's set pieces because Paul Yandell mentions it as being the first song he heard Mose play and the consideralbe impact it had on him.

The quote I'm talking about is on the back of 'Back Home' or the 'Merle Travis Guitar' because those were the only two albums I had of his for years

Hello Norm,

I just checked Merle Travis Guitar and it's not there so it must be on the other album.

Thanks, Kirk.

My memory said as much but it is always wise to ask...

Norm,
The quote is on the album 'Travis!' Capitol T 1664. I kept looking and found it.

The album "Travis" is the one my dad had before I ever heard of Chet. I loved the chords that the steel guitarist was playing behind Merle on that album. Then I heard Chet and life became even more complicated and interesting!
