Tommy Jones on "Hee-Haw"

I went to see Chet in the late 60s in a concert at the Civic Center in Atlanta. During that show he announced that he was going to bring out a young guitarist for the audience to hear, a young fellow from Florida, who had won a guitar contest. I don't remember the young picker's name, but have wondered since then, could it have been Tommy Jones?
Does anyone know if Tommy ever went on stage with Chet in Atlanta?
