The new Gretsch Chet Atkins strings have always only been available through the Gretsch website. I'm not sure about the other Gretsch strings.

Personally I learned years ago to Buy Generic. Buy accessories like picks and strings that you can be reasonably certain to find in any well stocked music store.

The other alernative is, for example if you're a big fan of Fred Kelly picks, buy a dozen of what you like. I use D'Addario strings on my CG mainly because I know most stores carry D'Addario so if I should be away from home and need replacement they are easy to get.

If you get to liking the Gretsch strings too much and they decide to drop them because they don't make money then you have to go through the process of finding the next string. Find out the guages of the strings you like and make note of them in case you have to shop.
