How to embed Youtube videos?

I tried to embed a Youtube video, but couldn't.
Tried two ways to do so:
In both cases, there was no Youtube video seen in the final post, only a large empty gap.
I ended up just posting the URL as an ordinary link.
What was wrong?

I tried to embed a Youtube video, but couldn't.
Tried two ways to do so:
- copying the URL into the message text, then marking it and pushing the Youtube button of the editor;
copying the Youtube embed code into the message text and proceeding as above.
In both cases, there was no Youtube video seen in the final post, only a large empty gap.
I ended up just posting the URL as an ordinary link.
What was wrong?
