Netiquette
For
a general discussion of netiquette, see Netiquette by Virginia Shea: http://www.albion.com/netiquette/book/index.html
Messages
should trigger discussion through a question or observation, or should
further a discussion by adding something new.
Avoid
inflammatory remarks of a personal nature. Similarly, when reading a
message, be slow to take offense. In general, assume that an individual
had good intentions when posting a message, but the rapidity of the
medium, the lack of visual cues and other factors may make an otherwise
innocent message seem insulting. Countering with insults on the Board is
considered off-topic.
Participants
should consider whether their reply is of interest to the Board as a whole
or only to the individual making the posting.

What
does *nm* mean?
This
simply means there is *no message* in the post. The poster didn't
include text in the message body. So if someone posts a 'one-liner'
response the *nm* telltale will let readers know there is no need (and
no point) to opening that message for viewing.

Why
doesn't the ChetBoard remember my preferences and my name and email
address?
-
First,
you must have your web browser set to accept cookies.
-
If
your cookie settings are correct and the browser still doesn't 'hold'
your cookie, clear your browser cache and try again. You may also
need to clear your cookies, but probably not. If your browser allows
you to delete specific cookies, then you should delete any cookies
starting with 'The ChetBoard' or 'WebBBS'. Then go to 'Set
Preferences', input your name, email info and set your viewing
preferences, then click on 'Update Preferences'.
-
Each web browser has
it's own procedure for adjusting options. Please refer to your
product's help files for instructions.

Can
I get email notification of responses to my posts?
Yes.
By default, email notification is turned off. If you would like email
notification just check the box in the posting form before clicking 'Post
Message'.

The
welcome message says I'm viewing fewer messages than are posted on the
page.
You
need to check your preference settings. At times there may be messages
older than the default '2 weeks'. Just set it for a longer period of time
and the older messages will show up.

Where
did the posts at the end of the board go?
Posts
at the end of the board are periodically moved to the archive and are
still availabe through a 'Full Archive Search'.

Why
can't I see my pic?
The
link to the picture file must point to a valid address where the pic file
is hosted. Check thoroughly for errors before posting. Also note that the
form field for the optional picture link already contains the 'http://'
portion of the link. If you paste a full address onto the end of the
existing text you may end up with a bad link that looks like this: http://http://etc.com
It's always a good idea to preview your post before final submission.

I
typed a link in my message body and it looks funny now and doesn't
work.
The board
will 'Auto Hotlink' full addresses typed into the message body. If the
address contains spaces the link will only be parsed up to the first space
and the link will be fragmented. Viewers may still copy and paste the full
link into their browser address bar for viewing. Using spaces in web
addresses is considered sloppy coding and you shouldn't see it very often.
In those cases where the link contains spaces, you must use the 'Optional
Link URL' form field. It's always a good idea to preview your post before
final submission.
